Institute of Management Bhubneswar - IMB was established in the year 1972 for the promotion of Management Education and Entrepreneurship. IMB is approved and recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of HRD Govt. of India, New Delhi.

The Two Year Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDM) is the flagship program of IMB. To translate this credo into action, IMB plans to “incubate” companies as well as develop three Centers of Excellence (Center for Energy & Power - CEP, Center for Rural Initiatives - CRI and Center for Information Technology Enabled Services - CITES). Each Company and Center is designed at adding value to the three most important stakeholders of any Business School – the Society at large, the Industry and the students.
Institute of Management Bhubneswar - IMB has already incubated two companies – and the Centers developed will also draw upon the leanings from these companies. For the students of IMB, the biggest advantage of these companies and Centers is the fact that they will get an opportunity to do project work here, get access to the research being done in these areas as well as benefit from the pedagogy which will capture all this.
The first company incubated by Institute of Management Bhubneswar - IMB is already doing work for Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL – a RPG Group Company) and talks are in progress for a project with North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL – a Tata Power Enterprise). This work is widely recognized in India and has won accolades from World Bank and DFID. The Center for Energy & Power will disseminate these learning's through training programs directed at the Industry. Also, renowned scholars such as Dr. Malcolm Harper, MBA (Harvard) will be developing books and publishing articles, which will capture this field experience. The second company incubated by Institute of Management Bhubneswar - IMB will develop innovative delivery mechanisms for goods and services in rural areas. This company is shortly commencing work with ICICI Bank to use innovative distribution channels for rural credit and developing rural kiosks for financial products. This company will also commence work with Linterland (a division of Lowe India) to develop innovative communication channels in rural areas. The benefits of this work include developing village level entrepreneurs and lowering of delivery costs for corporate. The Center for Rural Initiatives will concentrate on developing valuable content based on these experiences. Center for ITES – will try to address the most important issue for a strong ITES Sector – development of a strong manpower pool trained for this purpose.
