Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair of higher education had its inception on 6th November 1967. Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair is a premier Institution in the Union Territory of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. During the span of more than four decades, it has blossomed into a full-fledged institution. The Islands of Andaman & Nicobar are home to some of the indigenous tribes. Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair has been the hub of education to students from these tribes and has produced diligent graduates almost in all disciplines.
Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair has an enrolment of 2293 students in the academic session 2009-10, including 221 students belonging to ST Category of these Islands. Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair offers 16 courses at the Undergraduate level leading to B.A/B.Sc./B.Com/BCA/BBA (Tourism & Travel Management). It also offers 8 courses at the Post-graduate level leading to M.A/M.Sc. and M.Com. Degrees. The College is also a Centre of almost all the UPSC Competitive Examinations. It has also been declared as NET Examinations Centre by UGC from December 2002 onwards.
Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair is situated at Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. To students aspiring to study in a non-formal environment, Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair is an active Centre for Distance Education. Students enroll for courses offered by IGNOU and for Distance Education Programmes of Pondicherry University. This has facilitated not only students but also people from the working class aiming at higher education. The IGNOU study centre is located in JNRM campus wherein more than 1300 learners are taking advantage of Open System of education and about 200 students are enrolled in Distance Education Programme of Pondicherry University. The Regional Centre of IGNOU has also come up in the JNRM Campus with a view to strengthening Open University education system.
With the help of a highly qualified and able staff, Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair gives students unlimited help in every aspect. The library, which is the nerve centre of the College, offers a vast horizon of knowledge to the students. In addition to gaining knowledge, students are given equal opportunity for overall personality development through a wide-range of seminars and debates. As a foresight to the development of the College and addition of more and more courses, the College has a steadily growing infrastructure. Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair has spacious classrooms, well equipped laboratories, seminar rooms, computer centres & Zoological museum in addition to excellent infrastructural facilities in sports. The College emphasises on imparting Quality Education so that in the present scenario of Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation, our students can compete at national and international levels.
Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair has highly qualified staff in each discipline and has a favorable teacher-student ratio(1:30). An academic programme include formal lectures, tutorials, Laboratory work, group discussion, seminar, projects,cultura, sports and Literary activities. Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair has setup a Multi Gym and Indoor game facilities for the benefit of the student and staff of the College. Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair has beautiful Lawn Tennis Court & Basket Ball Court. A Cultural Wing is also functioning in the College which provides opportunity to the students to exhibit their talent in dance, music and arts.
For the students coming from distant islands, there are residential facilities in the Boys and Girls Hostel at Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair . At present about 250 girls are residing in the Girls Hostel and about 250 students are availing facilities in the Boys Hostel. The hostellers are also provided free mess facilities. Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair has three spacious Computer Centres, one for the Post Graduate and two others for the Under Graduate Students. The Computer Centre is having Internet access and extends computer education to various faculties. CD's on various topics are displayed using LCD Multimedia projector for the PG & UG Students.
Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya - JNRM Port Blair has N.C.C - Senior Division Boys (Infantry) Unit, Senior Division Girls(Infantry) Unit and a Naval Wing. The College also has a National Service Scheme (NSS) with one unit for Girls and another for Boys with total intake of 400 NSS Volunteers. Admission is given to those Undergraduate Students who can continue in the Scheme for two years.
