St Dominics College – Kottayam was started in 1965 under the catholic management of St Dominic’s Forane Church, Kanjirapally, to cater to the higher educational needs of the parish, in particular, and of the eastern parts of the Archdiocese of Changanacherry, in general. This was the fulfilment of a long-felt need of this region which was one of the educationally backward areas in Kerala. When the new Diocese of Kanjirapally was formed in 1977, St Dominic’s College assumed the unique distinction of being the only institution offering higher education in the whole diocese. St Dominics College – Kottayam also includes in its purview the academic aspirations of the non-Catholic communities of the area and is committed to imparting education to all who seek higher learning at these doors, irrespective of caste , community and creed. In fact, this center of learning keeps in its interests ,the intellectual ,cultural and moral advancement of the whole area. St Dominics College – Kottayam offers different kind of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
St Dominics College – Kottayam is situated at Kanjirapally, Kottayam Dist. Kerala. Established with UGC assistance, the lab functions under the supervision of the Commerce Department. With the aim of imparting Computer and IT education to students, training programmes are conducted for various batches of students. The services of the lab are available to both students and teachers. Maintained and supervised by the Department of Botany, this is a rich collection of medicinal plants. It helps the students to understand and identify common as well as rare medicinal plants, their botanical names and their medicinal uses.
Under the supervision of the Physical Education Department and with the financial aid of UGC,a Health Centre with gym facilities functions in St Dominics College – Kottayam . Yoga and fitness classes are conducted here. The services and facilites of the Centre are open to students and staff. This functions directly under the supervision of the Physics Department of the college .The maintenance and repair of the electrical and electronic equipments especially is the work of this facility. The devices and equipments and the services of the workshop are open to the students and teachers. There are two units of the NSS functioning in St Dominics College – Kottayam with a sanctioned strength of 200 volunteers.
