DDA stands for Delhi Development Authority is a government body meant to make development in the capital of Delhi. The provision to make Delhi Development Authority was passed in 1955 under the Delhi Development Act. Before this, Delhi Improvement Trust and Municipal Body had been formed to the development in Delhi, but ever increasing population of the city made the need of authority that could make plans and control situation with changing needs. On 30th of December 1957, the authority got its official name, Delhi Development Authority. Delhi Development Authority plays important role in the development of capital. The authority has been making better infrastructure for more than eleven million inhabitants of Delhi.
DDA Working Areas
To run smooth working, the authority has divided operations that are handled by respective divisions such as housing, planning, land disposal, sports, land management, horticultural, etc. All the planning of the authority is done by
DDA Master Plans, formed in 1962. It is responsible to make structure of master plans for developing colonies and residential areas of the capital. It is also revised its master plans from time to time. Delhi Development Authority constructs houses and provides basic facilities like water supply, sewage, electricity and other infrastructure facility and all this work of the authority is done by DDA Housing division. Housing scheme of DDA is announced by the medium of newspaper and media advertisements.
DDA Land Development is other division of
DDA that manages the land required for the growth of Delhi. Apart from the acquiring land, this division also develops parking area, garden, green belt and regional parks in the city.
Additional Responsibilities
Apart from above-mentioned services,
DDA oversees the development, maintenance and construction of commercial properties such as shopping complexes, local markets, government offices, community centers, school and colleges, medical institutes, factories, etc. These properties are given on lease through auctions and tenders.
DDA has also been given responsibilities to develop sports facilities in the city and for that authority makes sports complexes, play fields, multi-facility gymnasiums, fitness centers, golf courses, etc. Yamuna Sports Complex and Sri Fort Sports Complex are two popular sports complexes developed by
