Apollo Institute of Hospitals Management and Allied Sciences – AIHMAS Chennai was inaugurated on 1st August 1992 by Shree N. Vaghul, Chairman and Managing Director ICICI and Dr. Sathikh, Vice- Chancellor, University of Madras and presided by Dr. Prathap. C. Reddy, Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group. The objective of the college is to develop Management professionals to administer the hospital in a scientific and systematic manner, to provide training in allied discipline and to develop technical professionals to meet the demands of the Health Care industry, to run the institution in a cost effective manner, and to run the hospital effectively and efficiently.
Apollo Institute of Hospitals Management and Allied Sciences – AIHMAS Chennai programme was initially started as a one year PG Diploma course basically to meet the internal manpower requirement. Being inspired by the success of the programme in 1998, the course was upgraded as a two year programme comprising several new subjects to meet the need of the day and also added Internship as a compulsory component of the programme to make it more practical and application oriented to enhance it as a professional programme.
In the year 1999, the scope of the Apollo Institute of Hospitals Management and Allied Sciences – AIHMAS Chennai was widened by introducing Allied Science course like Diploma in Medical Record Technology, PG Diploma in Radiology and Radiotherapy Technology. The year 2000 was a milestone in the history of the Apollo Institute of Hospitals Management and Allied Sciences – AIHMAS Chennai with the Hospital Administration course being enhanced as a Masters Degree following Affiliation with Charles Stuart University, Australia. PG Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, Cardiac Non-invasive Technology, OT Technician courses for technicians were added in the years 2001, 02. PG Diploma in Perfusion Technology was introduced in the year 2004.
Apollo Institute of Hospitals Management and Allied Sciences – AIHMAS Chennai entered into the collaboration with Alagappa University, Karaikuddi on 4th June, 2005 with an MOU being signed by Dr. P. Kanniappan, Vice- chancellor, Alagappa University and Dr. Prathap. C. Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group. With this collaboration the Hospital Management programme was upgraded as MBA in Health Service Management and also facilitated University Affiliation of all the Allied Science courses.

Hostel accommodation is provided only for girls. It accommodates nearly 400 students. The hostel here is very secure. The hostel is clean and comfortable and each room is provided with adequate facilities to stay and study. The Apollo Institute of Hospitals Management and Allied Sciences – AIHMAS Chennai hostel has visitors lounge, recreation hall, study hall, prayer hall. The hostel provides facilities for washing, drying and ironing. The students are permitted to go home every 2nd weekend of each month and permitted to go for outing every last weekend. The students are strictly required to adhere to hostel norms and regulations.

Vegetarian/non vegetarian meals are prepared hygienically. Good drinking water supply is provided.
