History
Celestron was originally founded as Valor Electronics in 1955 by Tom Johnson and its earlier inventories were the electronics and military equipment. The company made foray in
Astro optical business in 1960 under the brand name, Celestron. In 1964, Celestron Pacific was incorporated as the new division of Valor Electronics and started manufacturing telescope for general and educational use. Celestron was sold by Johnson in 1980 followed by its acquisition in 1997 by Tasco. The latter's bankruptcy resulted in the demerger of Celestron, which was purchased by SW Technology Corporation.
