Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women – Chennai was founded in the year 1996 under the aegis of Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran, who wished to start a college to pay a tribute to her husband Late Bharat Ratna Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Under the dedicated leadership of our Secretary & Correspondent Mrs. Latha Rajendran and Trustee Mr.M.Rajendran Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women – Chennai grew from its humble beginnings to become a premier institution producing rank holders in multidisciplines. Due to the able guidance of illustrious personalities like Late Mr.N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar, Late Dr.N.C.Raghavachari and Dr.Jeppiaar and with the support of well wishers, the college has had a qualitative and quantitative progress. Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women – Chennai Library is housed in a large hall stocked with a variety of books and journals. The Library has a total collection of about 10,000 books and provides access to more than 100 journals and magazines. Photocopying facility is provided for the benefit of students and the faculty. Each department has a department library. The college has an institutional membership with the British Council Library which the students and faculty make use of to widen their knowledge.
Realizing that the upsurge of technological advancement has made it imperative for students to have hands-on experience, Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women – Chennai provides a highly sophisticated computer center. There are 220 computers. They are the most updated Pentium machines with the latest software and tools. The college has a Microprocessor and a Digital Laboratory. The college has well equipped Laboratories for subjects such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, BioInformatics & Psychology.
Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women – Chennai provides ample facilities and opportunities for sports and games. There is a full time Physical Director to identify, encourage and coach the students in a variety of sports and games which include volleyball, hand ball, squash, football, shuttle badminton, fencing, karate etc. Many students have won prizes at District, State & National Level competitions. The college also has its own brass band. The College arranges for clean boarding and lodging facilities for outstation students.
