Dr .R. K. Shanmugam Educational Trust was promoted in the memory of the late Dr. R.K. Shanmugam in the year 2000. Being an Economist, Educationist and Administrator, he served in various capacities such as the First Finance Minister of Independent India, the Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University and the Diwan of Cochin. He founded Tamil Isai Sangam for the development of Tamil Culture and Tamil Literature with the help of Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar.
The Trust has promoted a college under the name of Dr RK Shanmugam College of Arts and Science – Villupuram to provide University Collegiate Education for the deserving students, especially belonging to the rural and tribal area in the year 1997. The College aims at the training of young men and women of quality, to be leaders in all walks of life, who we hope will play a vital role in bringing about desirable changes for the betterment of the people of our country. The college is sponsored with the co-operation of likeminded, well wishers and is being managed by eminent persons.
