Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam is founded by the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Puducherry in the Jubilee year 2000. It is established to fulfill the vision of the 24th General chapter moulding self - reliant women of our predilection by providing higher education irrespective of caste and creed. The congregation was started in Puducherry in the year 1844. It realizes the absolute need for women's education. It firmly believes that growth in women's education would be instrumental in fostering and raising the quality of family life. Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam aims at training the young women of quality and serves the society injustice and love. Every student while attaining knowledge and intellectual vigor strives to shine wonderfully and excel as a perfect model of women hood.
The motto of Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam is 'Strive to Shine'. The bangled fist that holds the torch is the symbol with a message that women are no more weaker section, they are going to dispel the darkness of ignorance and to literate the whole world and bring out liberation to women from their bondage. They will uphold justice and love to the whole world. The open book at the bottom is "The Bible" the living word of God. It is the book of redemption for the lost mankind. It helps to obtain a new freedom and a new life. Idhaya College functions as self-financing College affiliated to Bharathidasan University. It is approved by the government of Tamilnadu G.O.NO.237. This College follows the syllabus offered by Bharathidasan University. Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam offers different kind of undergraduate, postgraduate, research studies, diploma and certified courses.
Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam is situated at P.B.No.:66, Mariamman Kovil Street, Sakkottai, Kumbakonam -Thanjavur Dt. The existing building consists of Administrative Block, Computer Block, Lingual Block, Library Block, Conference Hall, Hostel Blocks, Amenities Block, Mess and Residential Accommodation for the staff members of the college. The total building blithe area is 13 ½ sq feet. We have library with reading room, which can accommodate adequate students. Library adequately equipped with books covering wide range of disciplines of academic and non-academic interest. The Library is open to all members of the college on every working day from 8.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Students should visit the library frequently and do intelligent reading and reference work without neglecting general good reading.

To be real is the objective of uplifting the rural girls, especially poor, Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam college provides a superb hostel facility at a very less affordable cost, for hygienic and tasty food with comfortable accommodation. One fourth of our students are residing in the hostel. High light of the hostel is its lovely atmosphere. Care and love is being shown by our sisters.
In Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam College U.G. Computer Science has been started the year 2000. "Teachers are Priceless Gift". We have good number of staff members who give up their fuel to make the students avail the latest software and hardware technologies. We have separate system for each and every student. Extra Curriculum as DTP, Pagemaker, Tally, Java and software is also conducted. Internet connection is not provided for Computer Science Department but also for other department students to equip themselves with Computer Knowledge. Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam has well equipped laboratory facilities with a neat and separate infrastructure maintenance for the instrument such as, PCR, cooling centrifuge, spectrophotometer for, M.Phil.,. We have Lab separate UG, PG lab with a Spacious laminar air flow chamber & Internet facility for improving the knowledge of the students.
Exclusive internet facility for student to get access to the cyberspace is provided in Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam Computer Lab, Physics Lab, Micro biology Lab which the students utilize for gaining international knowledge. To cater to the needs of the students and the staff members a hygienic canteen functions in the college campus. It supplies snacks and refreshments at a reasonable rate. Our college is running its own bus, for the benefit of the staff member and students coming from various parts of the city. Because of this transport facility, all are reaching their destination on time.
Idhaya College for Women – Kumbakonam cell offers academic and career counseling on the scopes available to the students. It plans to offer training to the students, preparing them to face the competitive world and survive the test of the race. The senior academician, with a rich experience is appointed as the co-ordinator of the cell, supported by the talented faculty of the College.
