Indian Institute of Technology-IIT Indore is one among the new IITs. It started from the academic year 2009-10. IIT Indore is an autonomous engineering and technology institute of higher education. Indian Institute of Technology-IIT Indore located in Khandwa Road, Indore , Madhya Pradesh. It will come up in 525 acre of land at Simrol, 25 km from Indore. Union Human Resources Development Minister Mr. Arjun Singh laid the foundation-stone of the Institute on 17 February 2009. IIT Bombay is currently mentoring IIT Indore.
The driving force behind the 21st century is the development of knowledge-intensive societies. This awareness has led to the creation of new institutes of higher learning in India in the past few years. Indian Institute of Technology-IIT Indore is part of this mega-project that envisages India as a Global Technology Leader. Continuing with the tradition of the older IITs, IIT Indore aims to play an active role in this task of propelling India on her growth-trajectory by focusing on education, research and development. IIT Indore visualizes this mission within the context of larger humanistic concerns.
Computational Facilities are established in short span of one semester during Aug 2009 to Jan 2010. These facilities include over 70 networked PCs (with configuration of 4 GB RAM and 250 GB Hard disk). These PCs are distributed across various labs, faculty cabins, as well as the office of the institute. Indian Institute of Technology-IIT Indore has campus-wide intranet supporting these networked PCs. The hardware supporting the intranet includes two switches and five IBM Servers having 32 GB RAM and 500 GB Hard disk. Manpower: Shri Nitin Belekar, designation: technical person. Shri Nitin Belekar also looks after day-to-day network administration and maintenance.
The Central Library at Indian Institute of Technology-IIT Indore is rapidly developing its collection of books, reference books, periodicals, and electronic resources. The Text Book Collection in the Library provides vital support for on-going undergraduate teaching programme. The books are on various disciplines ranging from Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, and Philosophy. The collection for Post Graduate programmes is also being developed simultaneously.
Indian Institute of Technology-IIT Indore offers a 4-year B. Tech. programme in the following disciplines: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. Indian Institute of Technology-IIT Indore also offers Ph.D. programmes in Engineering (Computer Science, Electrical and Mechanical), Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics), and Humanities and Social Sciences (Economics, English and Philosophy). Currently, IIT Indore is functioning from the premises of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. As in the case of other IITs, the Institute is fully residential. At present, the hostel facility is provided to the students at Peace Point Colony, Khandwa Road, Indore. Simultaneously, the task of getting the new campus ready at the earliest is in progress.
