Patkar Varde College - Mumbai was founded by Chikitsak Samuha, a club formed of like-minded individuals who were keenly interested in education. The Samuha had already established and successfully run a school in Girgaon for many years before they decided to venture into the field of higher education.
Patkar Varde College - Mumbai stands on a plot of ground donated by Late Smt. Motiben Dalvi. The College was named after Sir Sitaram Patkar, a distinguished judge of the Bombay High Court, who was knighted after his retirement and his wife Lady Shantabai Patkar. Sir Sitaram was deeply interested in furthering women’s education and was the Vice-chancellor of the S.N.D.T. University for many years. Patkar Varde College - Mumbai is well-known in the western suburbs of Mumbai. Since its establishment in 1964, it has constantly worked at increasing the number of courses it offers students and bettering its infrastructure.

Patkar Varde College - Mumbai is located in S. V. Road, Goregaon, West, Mumbai. Management of Patkar Varde College - Mumbai is governed by the Chikitsak Samuha; an organization registered with the Charity Commissioner and is governed by its bye-laws. The Chikitsak Samuha has a Managing Committee which meets once a month. The Principal of the College is a permanent invitee at these meetings. This Committee meets once in a term and supervises the income and expenditure accounts of Patkar Varde College - Mumbai prepare the annual budgets of the College. Also the teacher representatives prepare the academic time-table of the College. Patkar Varde College - Mumbai offers different kind of bachelor and master courses leading to different streams.
Central Library of Patkar Varde College - Mumbai houses an extensive collection of books and journals to support the teaching, research and extension activities of the College by providing students and staff with information and documentary resources and services relevant to their needs. The infrastructure of the College aims to provide students with the optimum learning environment.
Students Council of Patkar Varde College - Mumbai for the academic year 2008-2009 was formed in the first week of September. Thirteen students (mostly those who had topped in various faculties) and the secretaries of Sports, NCC, NSS and Cultural associations were chosen to be a part of the Council.
Patkar Varde College - Mumbai students are motivated and provided guidance in participating in various competitions of the college and intercollegiate level. Such programmes develop team spirit among students. Their confidence to face new crowd is also built through such programmes and participations. Numerous prizes, trophies and appreciations were received by our students in classical dance, light vocal music competition, folk dance, group dance and many other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at the intercollegiate and state level competitions. Patkar Varde College - Mumbai has been taking initiative to encourage the students to participate in group discussions, seminars and workshops on topics and subjects within their course curriculum. Special efforts were made to encourage students to refer to reference books in addition to prescribed text books.
