Sanatan Dharma College – Ambala was founded at Lahore in 1916 by the great Sanatanists Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and Pandit Deen Dayal Vachaspati. Pandit Reikhi Ram Ji was the most active force behind its birth and also instrumental in collecting huge donations. In the wake of partition of country in 1947, Sanatan Dharma College – Ambala was rehabilitated at Ambala Cantt in 1948 due to the untiring efforts of Goswami Ganesh Dutt Ji. No less significant was the role of local Sanatan Dharama Sabha in its re-establishment in the initial trying period. In promoting the cause of higher education, today, it is the leading institution in the northern region and thereby holds a place of prominence. Since its inception, the institute has been imparting quality education imbued with human values. Inculcating moral values and preparing responsible citizens to meet the challenges of life courageously and calmly continues to be its hall-mark.

NCC cadets of both wings have participated in various training camps, adventure, and social and welfare activities organized across the country.
NSS facility at Sanatan Dharma College – Ambala started National Service Scheme in 1973. The aim of the scheme is to develop the all- round personality of the students to make them responsible and patriotic citizens and to develop in them the sense of dignity of manual labour. N.S.S provides a forum to the young students for social service in their spare time. It has 3 units each having an enrollment capacity of 100 students.
Cultural Activity at Sanatan Dharma College – Ambala proper emphasis is laid on cultural activities students are encouraged to take part in Dramatics, Debates, Declamation, Music and Dance, Hiking Tours, Social Service Projects, Leadership Camps and various other activities.
