Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam is a premier centre of higher education in Kerala. The college is named after the great social reformer, philosopher and saint Sree Narayana Guru (1854-1928). Based on the ancient directives of Universal brotherhood and Love, Sree Narayana Guru preached the noble message of "One Caste, One Religion, and One God for man."
Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam was started by S.N.D.P Yogam in 1948. It was the first college in Kerala to start a post graduate course. Since its inception in 1948, Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam has not only spearheaded the uplift of the socially and educationally backward sections of our society but has also created a glorious history of outstanding academic activities, thus making itself the leader of the institutions of higher education in the state. The Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam is situated on a vast 27 acre campus along the National Highway-47 in the heart of Kollam City, on the eastern part of the Lal Bahadur Stadium, one km away from Kollam Railway Station.
Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam is one of the earliest and the greatest centres of higher education in Kerala. Bearing in letter and spirit the name of Sree Narayana Guru (1854-1928), the great saint-philosopher, social reformer and mystic poet. In 1952 the Sree Narayana Trusts was formed to manage and mastermind the activities of the Yogam. Since its inception in 1948, Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam has not only spearheaded the uplift of the socially and educationally backward sections of our society but has also created a glorious history of outstanding academic activities, thus making itself the leader of the institutions of higher education in the state.In addition, the college offers 17 undergraduate and 13 postgraduate courses. Eight of the postgraduate departments are approved research centres as well.
Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam offers two PG diploma courses, two certificate courses and a UGC sponsored Spoken Sanskrit Course. The institution further provides facilities (both infrastructure and faculty) for conducting contact classes of the correspondence courses under University of Kerala and counselling of IGNOU study programmes coordinated by the IGNOU Study Centre.
Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam offers unique facilities for research scholars. The college has developed superior research facilities which surpass those available in most research centres. Collaborations with national as well as international universities and laboratories have helped the research section to excel in its attempt to develop the subject. All the research departments have full-fledged computer labs and well organized libraries that subscribes to a number of national and international research journals. Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam has the reputation of outstanding research activities. At present eight of the postgraduate departments are approved research centres.
To assist the members of the staff and students in their efforts in teaching, learning, research and other academic activities, Sree Narayana College - SN College Kollam Library collects co-ordinates and disseminates information. At present, the Library has a total collection of more than 98,000 books which include reference books, text books, treatises, fiction, back volumes of periodicals etc. The library subscribes to 35 periodicals, 60 journals and 9 newspapers. It has two sections, General Library and Department Libraries. The General Library has a Circulation Section, Reference Section and Periodical section.
The Kollam Study Centre of the University of Kerala resides on the campus providing reference library services to the Postgraduate students, research scholars and teachers.
