The Gargaon College - Sivasagar established on 7th September 1959, is one of the premier institutions of higher education in Assam. The Gargaon College is located at P.O. : Simaluguri District : Sivasagar, Assam. The College came under the deficit-grants-in-aid system of Govt. of Assam in 1966. The Gargaon College - Sivasagar has three faculties in Arts, Science and Commerce and there are Sixteen Departments at present, Viz. Assamese, English, Economics, Political Science, History, Education, Sociology, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geology, Statistics and Commerce. The College imparts Education to more than two thousand students in every academic year with an efficient and dedicated teaching staff.
More than one thousand students are admitted annually to the College for higher education, both in the Higher Secondary Section and Three Year Degree Course. The Gargaon College - Sivasagar has been assessed and accredited by NAAC in the year 2004.Since its establishment, the College under the able and pioneering guidance of eminent educationists and teachers has been successfully fulfilling the emerging needs and challenges of the times. The College is committed to grow into a center of excellence and sustain its momentum to be the best by catering to all the needs of the students particularly those who belong to weaker sections of society.
Hostal facility is available for both boys & girls. There are two Separate Hostels for Boys & Girls with necessary facilities. Both the hostels are situated within the College Campus. The Gargaon College - Sivasagar library adequately equipped with 18,000 books covering wide range of disciplines of academic and non-academic interest. The college also subscribes for international and national journals, periodicals and newspapers for the students and faculty members at the college library.
The Gargaon College - Sivasagar is on the verge of introducing these National Organizations/Programmes after getting due approval from the concerned authority . The College is aware that such a program would mould the students into disciplined, dutiful and respectful citizens. The National Service Scheme in the College has helped the students in many ways. By adopting this scheme the College has been able to create an awareness among the students to develop a sense of responsibility and to redefine their personality through community services.
Free medical camps are organized by The Gargaon College - Sivasagar from time to time with the help of reputed Medical Practitioners. These camps are open for the students, staff and the people of the neighboring locality. The College has a sports centre of its own. The centre encourages student to participate in different Indoor and Outdoor games. The centre is equipped to meet the basic needs of a sportsman. It has successfully conducted a few competitions among the students, teachers and on the club level. The centre is planning to procure advanced sports equipments with the help of sponsoring agencies so as to provide better facilities to the students.
