Clipper card was initially released as Translink in 2002, as part of pilot program. The card was released by Metropolitan Transportation Commission. It obtained its current form in June 2010. Clipper card enables the card holder to modify it, according to their transit requirements. The card can maintain many passes, tickets and up to $300 cash at a time. Cash value on it can be utilized to ride any transit system in San Francisco Bay Area such as Muni, AC Transit, SamTrans, Golden Gate Transit, etc. Card holder has to reload Clipper card, when their pass expire or has less $10 holder cash on it. Clipper card replaced the traditional Paper tickets system, which expire after 90 days of purchase.
