DAV PG College – Gorakhpur came into physical existence in the year 1970, in the building of D. A. V. Inter College with few subjects of Arts with certain selected teachers. Dr. R.J Das joined as principal. Soft Spoken, Hard working man of firm desire Sri H. S. Lal took the task sportingly and within two years the college was shifted in its own building with new premises. Later on more subject wear started in Arts.
DAV PG College – Gorakhpur is one amongst the pioneer institutions engaged in the service people of eastern U.P in general and of Gorakhpur in particular. DAV PG College – Gorakhpur came in to existence as a sweet dream of Late. Sri Surendra Nath Srivastava, a teacher in D.A.V Inter college Gorakhpur, Who expressed his desire of having a degree college in the city, when he was on the death bed in medical college Gorakhpur and handed over Rs. 1001/- to Babu Umashankar Ji the then manager of Aryan educational trust Gorakhpur.
That is considered as the day of inception of the college .Credit goes to Babu Umashankar Ji, who could dare to accept the Himalayan challenge and got busy in performing the task .the labour spirit and devotion of Babu Umashankar Ji emerged as D.AV. P.G College, Gorakhpur of today. The faculty of Science with both the streams of Biology & Math’s also came into existence.

Babu Darp Narain Singh Ji donated some of his landed property to the college as well as Smt. Ishwari Devi wife of Late Sri Ram Deo Ji donated her house and landed properties to the trust for proper hatching and nourishing of the college. Rai Bahadur Madusudan Das, Chaudhary Ram Lakhan Chandra, Sri Adya Nand Verma. Dr. Janki Prasad, Sri Kishum Ji, Sripat Sinha Ji, Bal Krishna Jauhari Ji are some of the person, who have been closely associated with the college and had strict vigil on its development and progress.
One more feather was added in the cap in the year 2006 when the college was upgraded upto Post Graduate stander under self finance scheme in two subjects viz, Political Science and History. The Credit goes to the then principal Dr. Rama Shanker Rai, a young, energetic man, who is now acting as principal Firoz Gandhi P.G. College, Rai Barely, U. P. Today, DAV PG College – Gorakhpur is running in Full strength with more than 2500 students including boys and girls, P. G. Classes in History and political Science, both the branches of science along with a number of subjects in Arts at graduation level. Dr. K. K. C. Vishwapremi is acting as Principal.
