Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa started functioning during the session 1985-86 with an annual intake of 30 students. Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Sirsa came into being in the year 1985 under the Technical Education Department, Haryana with the objective of providing technical education to women. It was functioning as a guest institute in Govt. Polytechnic, Sirsa. Initially, two diploma courses were started having intake of 15 students each. Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa was shifted in its own campus in March '92 and the intake was increased to 45 in Electronics & TV Engineering and 30 in Secretarial Practice & Stenography from the session 1992-93 with the starting of world-bank project. Two new diploma courses were introduced from the session 1993-94 with intake of 30 students each. The existing diplomas were covered under the modernization scheme of the World Bank project.
Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa is situated at a distance of about 5 Kms. from main bus stand and about 4 Kms. from the Railway Station of the City in the vicinity of Civil Hospital. A new diploma course i.e. Diploma in Information Technology has been introduced from the session 1999-2000 and all the diploma courses have been rationalized with a uniform intake of 40 students each. The name of SP & S has been renamed Modern Office Practice from the session 2001-2002. All the courses are of three years duration and on semester pattern. The courses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to the State Board of Technical Education, Haryana.
The objective of Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa is to ensure speedier and proper adjustment of trained students in industrial environment. To achieve this objective, a close liaison with the industry has to be maintained to meet their present day requirement. Their participation in design of curricula, practical training, evaluation and governance of the institution is a must for effective training of students.
Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa is maintaining liaison with the industry for their practical training, evaluation of practical work and for their placement through campus interviews. There is limited participation of industry in design of curricula. Most of the projects works carried out by the students find practical applications in industry. Some of the students get financial assistance during their industrial training. Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa invites reputed organizations for conducting campus interviews every year for placement of students.

Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa has well organized and very well equipped library with all latest books available according to the curriculum of different diploma courses and other general books. Besides these, the institute has other learning resources like Video cassettes, Project manuals, Data manuals, demo cds and other reference books etc. The institute has following laboratories which have been created / modernized under the World Bank project.
In spite of the demanding curriculum Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa students have continuously excelled in extracurricular activities. In TECULFEST ours is the only institution to bag two trophies, one in Quiz competition and one in Declamation Contest. Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa has been participating in games for last few years. Presently our institution is participating in various games like Table Tennis, Badminton, Kho-Kho, Handball, volleyball and athletic events in Inter Polytechnic Level. This institution had won permanent trophies in games like athletics, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Badminton.
Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa frequently organizes seminars , extension lectures by the experts invited from the various reputed organizations and industries to expose the students to latest know-how so as to enable them to keep in pace with the rapidly changing technological trends . The students of Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa are taken on visits to various industries for exposure to the practical works in actual industrial environment. This not only improves their theoretical knowledge but also establishes a link between theory and practical work. The students are also sent on six months mandatory industrial training in various reputed industries and organizations of state govt. and the central govt. Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa provides Diploma program to the college students.
Since the starting of Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa, 1206 no. of girls students have been trained and passed out / undergoing training in various disciplines. Some of our students have found placement in the reputed organizations and working as professionals in their respective fields. Apart from conducting the regular diploma courses, Government Polytechnic for Women - Sirsa has not forgotten its social commitment for the upliftment of women belonging to the weaker sections of the society, particularly belonging to the rural areas, by imparting them training in various technical skills for gainful employment / self employment. Up till now, about 1900 no. of women trainees have been benefited through the community development centers run by this institute.
