In 1964, at the instance and initiative of Late Ranadeb Chaudhuri and with active co-operation of some eminent educationist and persons of public spirit, who formed the first Governing Body of Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College - Kolkata , two commodious building on the main thoroughfare of Prince Anwar Shah Road were acquired to house the college. The buildings were remodelled to suit the purposes of a modern college with all possible amenities for students and teachers. Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College - Kolkata started functioning from June 1965 as a co-educational institution. The aim of college was to provide higher education to people from the lowest economic strata of Society and this mission is still being pursued earnestly.
Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College - Kolkata in its present form is proud to offer Honours courses in Bengali, English, Hindi, History, Political Science, Education, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electronics, Philosophy, Geography and Accountancy at the under-graduate classes.We also offer Botany, Zoology, Physiology an Sociology in the General classes. The college also has D.E study centre where we offer MA and M.Sc. classes in Bengali, English, Sanskrit, Polscience, Environmental Science, Mathematics and M.Com affiliated with Vidyasagar University.

Since very inception of the department with the affiliation of teaching undergraduate (pass) course in Science College of University of Calcutta in the session 1968-1969, Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College - Kolkata central library was also established. At present the central library is located at the ground floor of the main building. The images have two rooms, one is stack room cum librarians office, and the other one is reading room. The library adequately equipped with books covering wide range of disciplines of academic and non-academic interest. The college also subscribes for international and national journals, periodicals and newspapers for the students and faculty members at the college library.
Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College - Kolkata runs a Science Club named 'USHASI' - under the aegis of Science Association of the college. All teachers of the science departments, namely - Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Electronics, Computer Science, Zoology, Botany, Physiology, Geography and Economics are member. Students of any branch having interest in science may become a member of this club. The main target of this club is to increase the interest on science and to make the students aware of the scientific development happening around us by way of organizing science exhibition, seminar presentation, posters presentation, quiz competition and other programmes related to science and development.
