Kohima Science College was established in the Year 1961. Kohima Science College is anchored in the concept of science education. It was established in view of the growing aspirations of the Naga people for science education in the state through the initiative of some prominent citizens of Nagaland. This small group of men felt the need to bring about positive changes in our land which was lacking in many aspects. To attain this they felt that science education be given priority as it would usher in technological development to augment the socio-economic condition of the people.
Kohima Science College aims at initiating science education and to impress upon the students the need and importance of research. In this regard we realize that the college has a vast scope and role. We believe that the students are our best assets and we try our best to impart education to them worthy of emulation and relevant for the times and the times to come. The mission of the
Kohima Science College is to offer an inter-disciplinary undergraduate program that will lead to multi-dimensional growth for the students and also open up career opportunities in a wide spectrum of areas.
To help hone the skills of the students so that they use the knowledge base and attitude set acquired as responsible global citizens. To inculcate in the students the importance of reflective and analytical thinking. To nurture standards for excellence, integrity and fairness. To help them become effective agents of social change. Kohima Science College is one of the largest and best equipped science colleges in the state. This, being the only Science college, offering degree courses in the entire state till late nineties, has received ample funds from the state government to build an establishment that can cater to over a thousand students.
Till date, it remains the largest science college in the state - its annual enrolment, including higher secondary sections, being one thousand two hundred. The imminent de-linking of higher secondary in the near future will significantly relieve the present constraints, and at the same time leave sufficient space for upgradation maneuvers. Kohima Science College has regular bus service to commute students and staff to and from the town. A nominal fee is charged for this service. This service is also available for other activities as and when required. A pool vehicle is also available.
Kohima Science College library is a beautiful and modern library well updated books, journals & multimedia learning aids, provides the student and opportunities to keep themselves well versed with related information. A library well stocked with all the necessary volumes is available at the student's disposal. It is the synthesis of theories with working knowledge, together avenues to exploit all the available resources; we can mould our students into thorough professionals, who would become the leaders of their profession.
