Govt Degree College - Pauri Garhwal was established on February 28, 1997 in Talwari, which is situated 11 km from the Tehsil Tharali and 11km from Gwaldam, which is beautiful tourist place situated at the Bageshwar-Chamoli district border. Talwari is a beautiful place and its lovely to watch the snow covered Trishuli mountains from this place. It is about 98 km away from the District Headquarter, i.e. Gopeshwar.
As Govt Degree College - Pauri Garhwal is the only college in the Pindar valley, the students from very remote places like Deval, Tharali, Lolti, Talwari, Gwaldam, Gerur, etc. come to study. There are two faculties in the college, viz. Arts and Science. The Faculty of Arts has six departments (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, History, Sociology and Political Science), while Faculty of Science has five departments (Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology). Govt Degree College - Pauri Garhwal is functional in two buildings, viz. Science Block 1 and 2, while the building of Administrative Block is under construction.
Govt Degree College - Pauri Garhwal promotes students to take active participation in the Sport Events. Dr. Vijendra Lingwal, Assistant Professor in Physics is a young and dynamic Sports Officer along with other senior faculty members like Dr. Ashok Kumar, Sri S.S. Maurya and Dr. Ahmad Pervez in the sports committee. Every year College cricket and athletics teams are being sent by the college to actively participate in the Inter-collegiate sports championship being organised by H.N.B. Garhwal University, Srinagar. Govt Degree College - Pauri Garhwal has two Units of N.S.S. Unit I: Dr. Hemant Kumar Shukla (Senior Programme Officer) Unit II: Dr. Vijendra Lingwal (Programme Officer) Each unit comprising of more than one hundred undergraduate students.
Govt Degree College - Pauri Garhwal has organised various quiz programmes, poster activities, essay writing and debate on HIV-AIDS under Red Ribbon Club. Dr. Hemant Kumar Shukla, Asstt. Professor in English is In-charge of RRC. Dr. Ahmad Pervez, Asstt. Professor in Zoology has given public lectures to spread the awareness against HIV-AIDS. Students have participated and became members in large numbers to jointly spread the message of AIDS awareness to the common people living in remote areas. Awareness of blood donation is also made in these enthusiastic young students of the college.
