Pocker Sahib Memorial Orphanage College – Malappuram was established in 1968 as an aided junior college, affiliated to the University of Kerala under the management of the Tirurangadi Muslim orphanage committee (Regd.). Consequent upon the University re-organization, the college came under the University of Calicut in the same year. It was upgraded as a first grade college in 1972 and a Post Graduate College in 1980.
Pocker Sahib Memorial Orphanage College – Malappuram has completed its 40th year of inception. Having expanded in terms of infrastructure, courses, staff and students strength the college has emerged as one of the premier institutions of higher learning under the Calicut University. At present nine degree courses and six post graduate courses are offered at the college catering to the higher education needs of around 1350 students. The college was mainly intended for the educational progress of the orphans of the Muslim community but it also fulfils the educational aspirations of students from all communities. It has adjudged as the best sub unit under the 29 Kerala BN NCC and won the rolling trophy many years. The subunit has been winning trophies for the best march past on Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations at Malappuram for the past many years. In the year 2003 we stole a march over other institutions of Kerala State by winning the prestigious Chief Minister Rolling Trophy for collecting the highest amount towards armed forces Flag Day Fund. NCC training improve the physical and mental ability of the students. It is aimed to develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and ideals of selfless service among the students to make them useful citizens.
This is a national scheme at Pocker Sahib Memorial Orphanage College – Malappuram for training the youth for democratic leadership. The NSS aims at personality development of students through community service. The major objectives are to work with and among the people, engage in productive social work, to enrich the society through practical programmes of rural development, to bridge the gulf between educated and uneducated people in the society and to promote the uplift of weaker section.
