Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering - SVUCE Tirupati was founded in the year 1954, in the well-known temple city of Tirupati, South India, under the auspices of Late Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, the ex-Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and with support of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. With an extensive campus which is spread across 1000 acres that is 6 km², it is one of the largest universities in India, and buildings of splendid beauty and architectural magnificence whose architect was the famous Mokshagundam Visveswaraya.
The University has eight constituent colleges that concern different conservative and sophisticated subjects. The University has 58 departments in total, where 71 different PG programs and many Diploma and Certificate programs are being taught with total academic faculty strength of 400 and 1500 non-teaching and student strength of 5000, including research scholars.
Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering - SVUCE Tirupati is an independent establishment whose keystone was laid by the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, on 13 October 1959. School of Management and Information Sciences previously identified as the School of Business Management is one of the famous business schools in AP and is well-known for its highly qualified and knowledgeable professors in the field of Finance. It has partnership with University of WISCONSIN, USA. The University also has a department of law offering higher education in the field of law.
Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering - SVUCE Tirupati has a department of Physics that offers M.Sc., integrated M.Sc. in Physics, M.Tech in Energy Management M.Phil and PhD courses. The Faculty members of the department are enthusiastically occupied in research in thrust areas of Physics which comprise of Atmospheric Physics, Laser and Integrated Optics, Condensed Matter Physics, Electronics and Solar Physics. Presently the Department of Library and Information Science is offering Master of Library and Information Science which is a two year integrated program under CBCS, with four semesters. Apart from this the department also runs Doctoral degree that leads to Ph. D and M.Phil programs as Full time and part-time. Admissions to these courses are done through an SVUCET admission Test annually. 20 students are given admission and 5 seats are fixed additionally for students under self financing scheme. The students also get the fellowships, scholarships etc.
