On 2nd October, 1974
University of Hyderabad-UoH was established by an Act of Parliament as a Central University, entirely backed up by the University Grants Commission. UoH is a member of many associations like the Association of Indian Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and International Council for Distance Education. Since 1988, under the UGC scheme for improving the standards of teaching in colleges and universities, an Academic Staff College has been working on the university campus.

Among them some schools are single-discipline schools while others have Departments and Centers joined to them. University of Hyderabad-UoH offers Post-Graduate courses, 5 -Year Integrated Master’s Degree Courses and Research Studies in numerous areas like, Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Performing Arts, Fine Arts, Communication, Management Studies, Medical Sciences, and in Engineering Sciences & Technology. Students with required qualifications are given admission to
UoH without any discrimination to race, caste, creed, language or sex. Merit at the entrance examination is also taken into consideration before the admission. Students who have failed to complete a three year Undergraduate Degree through an examination conducted by a University/ Autonomous College shall not be qualified for admission to the Post-Graduate Degree/Diploma Courses.
But, as a transitory measure, students who have passed a two year degree course may be considered for admission given that she/he has undergone a further one year bridge course and passed the same.
University of Hyderabad-UoH is rated as the only University under the -High Output – High Impact category among the top 50 institutions in the country with publications in citation - index journals.
