Banaras Hindu University - BHU Varanasi was founded in 1916 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. Banaras Hindu University is a premier Central University and a world class educational institution located in Varanasi, India. It is regarded as the largest residential university in Asia. Banaras Hindu University - BHU Varanasi has established the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus at Barkachha about 75 Kms southwest of Varanasi on 2760 acres of land. The first academic session commenced from 2006-07 with six programmes which has increased to more than 25 in the present session. This campus is emerging as a potential hub to impart education, training and entrepreneurship development skills, to the youth, women and marginalized sections of society in the backward region of Mirzapur and adjoining districts of Uttar Pradesh, Western Bihar and Northern Madhya Pradesh. The Campus is heading well as per your vision for education to generate new breed of human resource who would be job creators and not job seekers. There are 60 hostels (including 17 Girls Hostel) with an accommodation capacity of 9128 students (7003 boys and 2125 girls) in the campus. The University provides accommodation to its faculty as well as staff. The numbers of residential quarters are 538 and 678 respectively for teaching and nonteaching staff. In addition, the University has 4 guest houses and a transit house to provide accommodation to the guests.
Banaras Hindu University - BHU Varanasi conducts national level Undergraduate and Postgraduate entrance tests usually during May-June for admission to various courses. Admissions are done according to merit in the Entrance Tests, subject to fulfilling of other eligibility requirements. Admissions to B.Tech. / B.Pharm., M.Tech./M.Pharm. are done through JEE and GATE respectively. Admission to MBA and MIBA are done through IIM-CAT score. Admissions for PhD. are done on the basis of either qualification of NET by the candidates or through the scores of Common Research Entrance Test. In addition to these admissions in IMS are done through PMT exam. In addition to Indian students,
Banaras Hindu University - BHU Varanasi attracts a number of foreign learners in its premises. Foreign students are admitted through the application submitted to the Indian Mission in his/her country or by his/her country's Mission in India. Those foreign students who are selected under various scholarship schemes, either of the Ministry of Human Resource Development India or the Ministry of External Affairs India, are admitted on the recommendation/sponsorship of the respective ministry. In the case of admission of self-financing foreign students, their applications are routed through the Ministry of External Affairs for clearance in the first instance and thereafter through the Ministry of Human Resource Development for a 'No Objection' certificate.

Banaras Hindu University - BHU Varanasi was established in 2004, with an objective to deal with all matters related to Foreign Nationals viz. Collaboration with Foreign Universities/ Institutions, Foreign scholars visiting India as Visiting Lecturer/ Professor, Alumni Association of Foreign Students, Admission of Foreign Students etc. The International Centre is headed by the Chairman of International Centre, assisted with the Coordinator, International Student's Affairs and Coordinator, International Collaboration. The International Centre is housed in Tagore Bhavan, one of the oldest buildings of Banaras Hindu University, so named after the Noble Laureate Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore, who stayed in this building during his visit to BHU in the year 1923.
