Barbhag College – Nalbari was established in December 1964 as a result of the earnest efforts of a few progressive and dedicated individuals of greater Barbhag region. The mission of this College is 'to build the monument of a society free of discrimination, Prosperous with moral uprightness, cultured and self-reliant, through spreading of higher education among the socially and economically backward people of greater Barbhag region and thereby creating a cosmopolitan attitude among them'.
Barbhag College – Nalbari is located in one of the worst flood-hit interior rural areas of Assam. The College is a co-educational institution and comes under grant-in-aid category. The College is catering to the needs, largely, of socially and economically backward classes of the society, especially the first generation of learners in this rural part of Assam. The institution aims at imparting quality education, moving towards academic excellence and all-round development of the students. The College is recognized by the University Grants Commission under Section 2 (f) and 12(B) of the U.G.C. Act of 1956.
Barbhag College – Nalbari has a nice campus of 7.27 acres with a reasonable infrastructure. The College offers seven U.G. programmes. The College has qualified - experienced teaching faculty members numbering 25, including 4 M.Phil. Degree holders. There are 17 members on the non-teaching staff. The student enrolment stands at 362 including 212 female students. There are 7 departments in the institution.
Barbhag College – Nalbari is located in an area of 7.27 areas. Since its establishment, Barbhag College has created considerable infrastructure for teaching and learning inspite of the devastating floods every year. The College has built up over 28,970 Sq.ft. of building area with the assistance of UGC, Local M.L.A., M.P. development fund and development fee collected from students etc..
The College has envisaged a master plan with projections for future expansion. The College ensures optimum utilization of infrastructure. One can also witness the efforts of the College to keep the campus beautiful and pollution free. At present, there are 19,805 books and 06 current journals and a few news papers in the Central library of the Barbhag College – Nalbari . Book bank facility is also provided. Library works for 236 days a year and the working hours are from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Each department, apart from general library, has a departmental library with a small number of reference books for students and teachers.
A hostel for girls is under construction on the campus and it needs to be completed at the earliest. The Barbhag College – Nalbari has also made arrangements for conducting health check-up of students by visiting doctors from time to time. The physical and infrastructural facilities for games and sports need to be improved. The College organizes every year various sports competition in co-operation with the Students' Union. However, the College needs to encourage sports persons to participate at the State and National levels. College offers different kind of Bachelor courses leading to Arts and Science stream.
