Brookfield Zoo was publically opened in 1919, when an American socialite and
Opera patron named Edith Rockefeller McCormick donated its own wedding gift plot of 83 acres to the Cook County Forest Preserve District for a zoological garden. Later, the Cook County Forest Preserve District added 98 acres and established Chicago Zoological Society in 1921. On 1st of July 1934, the zoo was completed and opened to the public.
