The Library of
City University of Hong Kong - CityU Kowloon was established in 1984. In 1989, the Library moved to its current location in the Academic Building of the University campus in Kowloon Tong and the following year it was named Run Run Shaw Library in recognition of a generous donation by Sir Run Run Shaw. Located on Level 3 of the Academic Building, the Library occupies a central location which is easily accessible to users. The total number of seats available is around 2,100 during term time and 2,500 during the Revision and Examination Periods. The Library's collection includes more than 932,500 volumes of print books and about 2,158,400 volumes of electronic books. The collection also comprises around 199,000 volumes of bound periodicals and around 2,860 print serials titles. The Library maintains an expanding number of electronic databases, e-journals, and media resources.
The Mission of
City University of Hong Kong - CityU Kowloon Library is to support and augment learning, teaching, and research by providing an environment conducive to studying, by delivering efficient and effective services through a quality-conscious staff, by making available an outstanding collection, and by actively encouraging and facilitating use of the collection and services. A year on from our 25th anniversary, we are now embarking on a major five-year development plan. During this past quarter of a century we have grown from relatively humble beginnings to become a high-ranking world university with a talented team of international and local scholars and an energetic campus community.
The Strategic Plan of
City University of Hong Kong - CityU Kowloon forms the basis of our preparations for a groundbreaking change to the structure and direction of tertiary education in Hong Kong: the shift from a three- to a four-year undergraduate programme. In 2012, when this new four-year programme starts, we will welcome a larger body of students than ever before and introduce a range of exciting new courses to fulfill our dedication to a broad-based, transdisciplinary education for young people in Hong Kong, the region and overseas.
