College of Agriculture – Hassan was inaugurated by Shri.H.D.Devegowda, the then Prime Minister of India on 23rd August, 1996. From 1996 to 2005, it was functioning at GKVK, Bangalore and was shifted to its present new campus in the year 2006. College of Agriculture – Hassan has been accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. Two more new degree programmes viz., B.Sc. (Ag.Biotech) & B.Tech (Food Science) have been added from Academic Year 2007-08. The college campus has 184.25 acres of land area in addition to 112 acres of adjacent Agricultural Research Station, Madenur.
Dean’s Message of College of Agriculture – Hassan would help the farming community of the state in general and Hassan district in particular by way of producing well trained manpower, genuine agricultural inputs like seeds, planting materials and other information from time to time for overall development of the rural community. At present College of Agriculture – Hassan has well equipped class rooms, laboratory and other facilities. The campus is having well furnished hostel facility for both Boys and Girls. Library, Auditorium, sports ground and pavilion are coming in a big way. College of Agriculture – Hassan has good infrastructural facilities and well qualified teachers. There are definitely a lot of opportunities for students to select the field of Agriculture, Agricultural Bio-technology and Food Science areas for their career building and serve the farming community. There is lot of scope for research and higher education in the areas of agricultural bio-technology and value addition, preservation and marketing of these products in the international market especially in the era of Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization.
College of Agriculture – Hassan is located near Karekere, at 19 Kms from Hassan on National Highway-48 (Bangalore-Mangalore) towards Bangalore. Hassan is well connected by road and train facilities. College of Agriculture – Hassan offers different kind of bachelor and master courses leading to different streams.
The main building of College of Agriculture – Hassan consisting of the laboratories, classrooms, examination hall, seminar room, museum and offices is a land mark on the highway, with its visibility upto several Kms distance on either side. The campus has well built hostels for about 140 boys and 50 girls at present. Sports stadium and other sports fields are located on an area of nearly 30 acres.
Library of College of Agriculture – Hassan came into existence during the year 1966-67. From its initial collection of 26,000 volumes of books and bound periodicals, it has now grown to 1, 69,835 volumes. The University Library moved into its own functional building at GKVK in the year 1976. The University Library is kept open for 12 hours on working days and for limited hours on Saturday and Sundays. Students and staff of the University can become the members of the Library, whereas benefited outsiders who come with the introductory letters from their institutions/ ID card provided by our University Library are permitted for consultation only.
The Library of College of Agriculture – Hassan has created a database of Books, Journals, Theses, Reports and Reference sources and it’s made available through ‘OPAC’. The library has also created databases of current periodicals, CD’s, on-line Journals subscribed and digitized database of Theses available in the Library. The Internet Services has been provided at the GKVK library for the Staff and P.G. Students. Eleven Electronics Journals are also subscribed by the University Library. These e-journals can also be accessed at the GKVK Library, Hebbel campus Library and all the colleges and Departments at the GKVK and Hebbel campuses. Library of College of Agriculture – Hassan with an initial collection of 4000 accessions is functioning for 12 hours a day. Separate building for auditorium, library, indoor stadium, sports pavilion and staff quarters are coming up fast. Nearly 120 acres of land will be brought under cultivation and several field crops and horticultural crops have been included in the master plan. College of Agriculture – Hassan will have 84 well qualified teachers and 178 service personnel very soon. At present the library has got a collection of 5000 latest books. The target is to acquire 5000 more books in one or two years. Facilities will be available for most of the outdoor and indoor sports. Hostel facility is available for 140 boys and 50 girls at present. Will be extended to accommodate 400 boys and 250 girls soon.
The first batch of College of Agriculture – Hassan 43 students have recorded cent per cent pass during I Semester, with class average grade point of 8.03/10.00. Mr.Abhishek Kumar secured the highest Grade Point Average of 9.07. One of our students, Kum.G.J.Pavitra represented University in All India Inter Agricultural University Sports and Games meet held at Ludhiana and won second prize in Table Tennis.
