Government Polytechnic College – Palakkad, which is a government sector establishment of the government of Kerala, was established in 1980, with Shri. Ramachandra Pisharady as its first principal. Under his able leadership and guidance the polytechnic started with 3 main branches of study, namely Technical with specialization of foundry technology, Power electronics and Instrument technology.Apart from this civil Engineering branch and Computer hardware maintenance course started in 1985 and 1990 respectively the college offers part time courses in mechanical, civil and electronics for people employed in industries.
Government Polytechnic College – Palakkad is located in an area of 68 acres, about 60 kms from Palakkad on the Palakkad – Pollachi road. The college has proximity to a large number of large and medium scale industries. The Institution was selected as a community polytechnic in 1991-1992 with the purpose of developing a regular interaction between the community and the technicians of the polytechnic. As part of this programme, the facilities and manpower provide construction assistance to fulfill the needs of the community.
