The University was established on December 2004, of the Chhattisgarh Government Former Prime Minister a visionary statesman and a dedicated journalist Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee inaugurated the University on 16 April 2005 at Raipur amidst the greatening of eminent journalist, educationalist, literatures, social workers and senior politicians. The university is named after Late Sri Kushabhau Thakre who was one of the great political leaders of the country.

Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur. The Airport is around 20 km. Auto Rickshaw charges Rs. 35-40 from the railway station. The present campus has office, well equipped classrooms, faculty rooms, library, Computer lab, Audio-Visual studio, Language lab and other necessary infrastructure. Efforts are being made to provide hostel accommodation however private hostels for boys and girls are available in the close vicinity.
Construction is in progress of the Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Awam Jansanchar University - KTUJM Raipur campus on 62 acre land allotted by the Govt. of Chhattisgarh. The first phase of construction includes faculty buildings, hostel, a few staff quarters and lab is near completion. Second phase of construction has also been started. Idea is to build a campus which is a unique combination of traditional and modern architecture. The State Public Works Department has been entrusted the responsibility of construction. The second phase includes Administrative Block, Multimedia Centre, Utility Block, Guest House and Faculty Houses.
