SDP College for Women - Ludhiana was founded by the S.D.P. Sabha Ludhiana in 1968 to cope with the ever-increasing number of girls students in the town, as there wee only two colleges for women in the town till then. The Sabha got the college, Chandigarh for degree classes in Humanities in that very year. The college got a very encouraging response from the public and more than 400 students got admissions in the college in its very year of inception. At present number of student has risen to about 800. The college has got the rare distinction of becoming first ISO 9001-2000 Certified educational Institution.

SDP College for Women - Ludhiana has a well equipped Library, Home Science Laboratory, Mini Theatre, Music Room, Table-Tennis Room, a Modern Cafeteria, Non-Resident students' Centre & well equipped Computer Lab, Language Lab, two cycle sheds and a spacious Seminar Hall.

SDP College for Women - Ludhiana imparts Education in B.A. with Functional Hindi & Computer Application under the auspices of U.G.C., M.A.(Hindi), B.Com., B.C.A. and P.G.D.C.A, P.G.D.F.D. Remedial classes free of charge are held for weak students in various subjects under U.G.C. Scheme.
