GITAM University – Hyderabad was founded in 1980 by an inspired group of eminent intellectuals and industrialists of Andhra Pradesh led by Dr. M. V. V. S. Murthi, Former Member of Parliament and popular philanthropist. During the past 32 years, GITAM has been committed to excellence in higher education foraying into diversified disciplines of learning. It has steadily evolved into a world class university recognized for the experiential learning it offers, the competent and compassionate faculty, the stellar research laboratories, academic vibrancy and cosmopolitan culture.
GITAM University – Hyderabad is located at Patancheru Mandal, Medak, Hyderabad. Dr. MVVS Murthi, visionary, industrialist, educationist, philanthropist and former parliamentarian has been guiding the destinies of the University since its inception. The GITAM University – Hyderabad has two campuses - its main campus at Visakhapatnam, and an off campus at Hyderabad. Known for its creative dynamism and flexibility, the university offers varied programmes blending skill development and value orientation to shape the career of students and develop holistic personality to be privileged members of the civil society. The university also offers several programmes through distance learning to increase access to higher education with emphasis on reaching the unreached.
The GITAM University – Hyderabad has established placement cell in each of its institutes to train and guide the students in finding lucrative placements. The placement record has been consistently highly impressive, with major recruiters from both the core and IT companies. The vision of the GITAM University – Hyderabad is to become a global leader in higher education and the mission of the university is to impart futuristic and comprehensive education of global standards with a high sense of discipline and social relevance in a serene and invigorating environment.
The central library of GITAM University – Hyderabad was commissioned in 2002 and subsequently transformed into Knowledge Resource Centre. The building was ideally and centrally located at the heart of the campus overlooking the vast expanse of scores of acres. It is garlanded by a cluster of academic buildings, classrooms, laboratories, workshops, sports grounds with international standards, canteen and hostel buildings. The hillock of Rushikonda, the legendary abode of saints, surrounded by green pastures and the blue ocean are some of the visual delights in the vast panoramic view from the library.
The GITAM University – Hyderabad building was named after the famous and world renowned teacher, philosopher and former President of India, Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Bhavan. This five storied air conditioned complex with CCTV Surveillance System is an architectural delight. The Bhavan has a total plinth area of 50,000 s.ft and facilities like air conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 200 and also annexe to host meetings for a capacity of 500. Book exhibitions, product demos, group discussions of training and placement departments and get togethers of students take place here.
The GITAM University – Hyderabad administration puts in all efforts to help the students feel at home in terms of comforts and concern of the hostel personnel. Eco-friendly environment, encouraging academic ambience, uncompromising quality of hygiene, steam cooking, safe drinking water, round the clock security, availability of qualified doctors and resident wardens, indoor games facilities, uninterrupted power supply- all these ensure a very safe and secure stay for the student. Health Care Centre in the GITAM University – Hyderabad campus is available with all types of medical advise, clinical tests and inpatient facility with five beds each for boys and girls. The centre is monitored by a resident medical doctor Dr. R. Prabhakar Rao. Specialists visit the centre during their appointed hours. An ambulance is made available on 24x7 bases to attend to medical emergencies. Students and Staff also have free access to dental college and hospital located in the campus to get their dental problems treated.
Two nationalized banks – Union Bank of India and Indian Bank operate their branches in the GITAM University – Hyderabad campus with the required banking operations. All students and Staff have access to both the banks. Two ATM counters of Union Bank of India and one ATM counter of Indian Bank offer services on 24 x 7 bases to all account holders with ATM facility. The working hours of the bank branches are also convenient as they operate during working hours of the University.
GITAM University – Hyderabad places as much emphasis on Physical Education as it does on academic excellence. The well equipped Gymnasium caters to the physical well being of students and staff, apart from the keen sports persons. The Kodi Rama Murthy Indoor Stadium of International standards have been the venue for many important intercollegiate events. The well laid out, spacious play grounds for various athletic events and games have been an arena for exuberant sports activities. The synthetic and clay floodlit tennis courts of international standards have been the venue for GITAM University – Hyderabad AITA Super Series, All India Tennis U/14 and Intercollegiate A Zone and Inter-Zonal Tennis (M).
GITAM University – Hyderabad commitment to improving the students skills and competitiveness has translated into producing many champions and winning an enviable series of championships. At present 06 food courts cater to the needs of the students and staff on the campus. These food courts are located in different places of the campus and serve different types of food to suit the divergent taste of the students and staff. University offers different kind of Bachelor, Master, Diploma, Doctoral and Master of Philosophy courses leading to different streams.
