National Institute of Technology - NIT Warangal is a Deemed University which was earlier known as Regional Engineering College. It was established in the year of 1959. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the keystone for this institute on October 10, 1959, the first in the chain of 18. The College is well known for its dedicated faculty and staff, state-of-the-art infrastructure and excellent placements.
National Institute of Technology - NIT Warangal is situated on a site of 248 acres extending on either side of Hyderabad–Warangal highway at a distance of 3 Kms from Kazipet Railway Station and 12Kms from Warangal Railway Station. The Institute is located at a distance of 140 Kms from the city. Warangal enjoys a special position in the cultural and historical map of the state. The fine and intricate architecture in Ramappa, Thousand Pillar Temple, Badrakali Temple and the Warangal Fort have been the main centers of attraction. The place enjoys a good climate all through the year except for the patches of hot summer during May-June.
The Central Library of
National Institute of Technology - NIT Warangal supports the teaching and research programmes of the Institute and looks after the needs for general reading and disseminates information according to the requirement of the users. It is set up in a separate building with a plinth area of 4000 sq. mtrs. It has more than 1,43,254 books, back volumes, technical pamphlets, standards, CD-ROMS, Video Cassettes etc. The total cost of the books is Rs. 5.65 crores and it also subscribes to 210 Journals, 121 Indian and 89 Foreign at a cost of Rs. 5.64 lakhs. It also gets 2000 on-line Journals through INDEST set-up by MHRD, Govt. of India.
