Sikh National College – Gurdaspur with motto Subh Karman Te Kabhun Na Taran i.e. never stay away from the path of righteousness, affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was established in June 1938 at Lahore by a Nationalist personality Principal Niranjan Singh and after partition of the country was re-established at Qadian, Distt. Gurdaspur in the state of Punjab in March, 1948. The college was being run by Sikh Education Society, Lahore headed by Bhai Bhola Singh ji. After partition, now it is managed by Sikh Education Society with head office at Chandigarh. The Management in addition to Sikh National College, Qadian, runs five other institutions.
The Sikh National College – Gurdaspur is situated in a campus of about 25 acres. The college is on Grant in aid from the State Government and is on the list of UGC under 2f and 12 B categories of colleges. The college has shown steady progress since its inception and rehabilitation. The college offers degree level programme in seven subjects in Arts including languages i.e. English, Hindi and Punjabi. The Science faculty offers four subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Computer Science. Keeping in tune with the time, the college runs B.Sc. in Computer Science and B.A. in Computer Application Vocational, B.Sc. (Economics). The college also runs full time Diploma in Computer Application and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application.
The Sikh National College – Gurdaspur has 17 permanent teachers of whom 6 are female teachers which constitute 35% of the total permanent staff, 4 temporary teachers and 17 members of non-teaching staff. Of the regular staff, 3 are Ph.D., 7 M. Phil and rest of the seven are P.G. while all the four temporary staff members are Post Graduate only. The college has student enrollment of 400 in UG classes and 26 students are enrolled in the diploma courses. 50% of these are the girl students. Dropout rate of the college is slightly on higher side.
The Sikh National College – Gurdaspur has a cluster of buildings, housing, Administrative Office, Library, well equipped Science Laboratories, two modern fully air-conditioned Computer Labs, Auditorium and Canteen. It has extensive playgrounds and standard 4 lane track, swimming pool and basketball ground. Sikh National College, Qadian has a large campus measuring 25 acres of land in rural setting. The college has a vast network of infrastructure which includes class rooms, labs, stores, library, multipurpose hall, common room, canteen, playgrounds, 400 mts 8 lane standard athletic track, cricket, football and hockey grounds, swimming pool and generator etc.
The Sikh National College – Gurdaspur has master plan indicating future requirements. The college is housed in a very spacious building owned by Ahmadia Community on a token rent of Rs. 100 only. The college plans to meet the need for augmenting its desired infrastructure with the financial assistance through donations and contribution by alumni and a large number of NRI s. The alumni of the institution have already made donations to the tune of approx. 22 Lacs. The library needs to be fully computerized. The library has 24,330 books. It subscribes to 35 magazines and 15 newspapers. There is a dire need of separate Audio Visual room with multimedia facilities and more number of audio visual cassettes and CDs.
The Sikh National College – Gurdaspur does not have any doctor on its roll, however, services of Dr. B.S. Bhatia, M.S. has been taken on Honorary basis for medical checkup and blood grouping of the students. The college is managed by Sikh Educational Society, Chandigarh. The college has an efficient internal coordinating and monitoring mechanism. The Principal is the administrative head and responsible for maintaining attendance, engagement of classes and general administration of the college. Dr Kuldeep Singh, the present Principal of the college has completely re-jointed the college and all segments of the institution are working in complete harmony. College offers different kind of courses leading to different streams.
