SJMV BAJSS Arts and Commerce College for Women – Ranebennur is run by SJM Vidya Peetha Chitradurg (Regd).Established in July 1979 the college is devoted to disseminating knowledge to the women folk of rural areas since 30 years. It provides under graduate education in Arts and Commerce programme. The College has its own Spacious and Splendid building in the core of the city. The Campus has an area of 1.25 acres in which a well equipped library, computer lab, play ground and garden are housed. There are 19 permanent teaching and 10 non-teaching staff. The average number of learners every year is 500. It is an aided institution receiving salary grant from Karnataka state government. It is included under 2(f) and 12 B of UGC Act.
It is accredited at B+ level by NAAC in February 2005. Since the inception of karnatak state women’s University Bijapur, the SJMV BAJSS Arts and Commerce College for Women – Ranebennur has got permanent affiliation from Women’s University.SJM Vidya peetha is established under the auspice of Sri Jagadguru Murugharajendra Brihanmatha Chitradurag which is a noted religious center in Karnataka .The Matha is having a commendable tradition for the past three centuries and is rendering its service in the religios, social and educational spheres and in bringing transformation in the society. Sri Matha is known for its secular nature.The pontiffs of Sri Matha were all spiritual personalities who were revered by the society.

SJM Vidya Peetha was established in the year 1966 with the blessing of the then pontiff Sri Mallikarjuna Muragharajendra Swamiji with a vision of imparting education to all and to the deserved. Today various professional institutes under SJM Vidya Peetha have produced thousands of brilliant graduates who are serving all over the country and abroad in responsible positions. The present pontiff of Sri Matha Sri Shivamurty Murgha Sharanaru is the president of the Vidya Peetha under whose guidance 150 educational institutions are functioning today. Besides it has a number of hostels and schools for physically challenged and orphan children.
