The beautiful campus of the University of Jammu is located in the City of Temples - Jammu Tawi. It has two campuses - New Campus at Bahu Wali Rakh, with an area of about 118.70 acres and another small old campus at Canal Road, having an area of 10.5 acres. Presently, in old campus, only residential accommodation for teaching, non-teaching staff and a boys hostel are located. The New Campus is well laid and is well earmarked for different activities. It has residential accommodation for all types of University employees.
The University of Jammu accredited as Four Star University by National Assessment & Accreditation Council of India came into existence in 1969 vide Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir. The University provides instructions in such branches of learning as it deems fit and makes provision for research and the advancement and dissemination of knowledge. The University of Jammu Executive Engineer and his establishment look after the construction and maintenance of the roads and buildings. There is a medical centre with outdoor services under the overall supervision of CMO.
Recognizing the crucial importance of computer networking, the University initiated its efforts by evolving a plan for developing a Campus Wide Computer Network with a mandate to link together all the computing resources located in different departments, centres and other buildings of the University for easy and effective access by the University community comprising of faculty, scientific and research personnel, students, and staff to a host within and/or outside the University of IT- based services such as the e-mail, internet, and access to a large variety of knowledge sources available. The IT-Cell with an emphasis to make University of Jammu an IT enabled University. Realizing that the Campus Network is the backbone for the implementation of Intranet and Internet applications, the Campus Networking project was conceived and proposed. Campus Networking & Internet Group headed by Prof. G.S. Sambyal was constituted to implement the project in a phased manner.

The Central Library of the University of Jammu is the hub of academic activities where students sit from morning evening everyday throughout, the year. Its four storey building has spacious reading halls and compact stack areas. The Library has a collection of nearly 3.5 lakh volumesre rareas well as latest, and 250 current periodicals with back numbers. The Library possesses facilities like photocopiers, LCD projectors, INFLIBNET, CD-ROM databases, RFID and inter-connected computer terminals at selected sites.
The Department of Students' Welfare,University of Jammu , welcomes all the candidates seeking admission to various Diploma/Graduate/Post Graduate Programmes in Teaching Departments of the University, particularly those who have talent in cultural and literary activities. The Department has been organizing various competitions to inculcate creativity among the students in about 30 events with the active participation from more than 70 Affiliated Colleges and 30 teaching Departments.
